The KL Mayor’s...

Since Kuala Lumpur was the Federal Territory of Malaysia from 1 February 1974 the city has been led by nine mayors.
They are the person who responsible to bring Kuala Lumpur closer to being a world-class metropolis now...

They are;



Tan Sri Dato’ Lokman Yusof the former Federal Capital Commissioner was elected the first Mayor. He passed away on 15.5.1972.



Tan Sri Yaakob Latiff then served as the second Mayor for 10 years.



He was later replaced by the third Mayor, Tan Sri Dato’ Elyas Omar on 1.2.1983.



The fourth Mayor was Dato’ Dr Mazlan Ahmad who elected on 17.11.1992.




Tan Sri Dato’ Kamarruzaman Shariff then took over as the fifth Mayor between 14.12.1995 to 13.12.2001.



He was then replaced by Y Bhg Kol. Datuk Hj Mohmad Shaid b Mohd Taufek who was appointed on 14.12.2001.



Then from 14.12.2004 until 13.12.2006 the post of the seventh Mayor was held by Y Bhg Dato’ Hj Ruslin bin Hj Hasan.



The office of eight Mayor was held by Y Bhg Dato’ Ab Hakim bin Borhan.




Currently, beginning 14.12.2008 the ninth Mayor’s post is held by Y Bhg Dato’ Ahmad Fuad bin Ismail.

Dato' Ahmad Fuad, 56, comes with 30 years experience in government, seven of them as the head of the Subang Jaya Municipal Council.

He served with the Public Services Department for six years and took over as Penang Development Corporation general manager in 2003.

He was appointed Housing and Local Government Ministry secretary-general in 2006.

He hails from Kedah and holds a Bachelor of Arts (History) from University Malaya and a Masters degree in Public International Affairs from the University of Denver in the United States.
